Grant’s Farm

While I was in St. Louis Josh and I visited Grant’s Farm.

That is Grant as in President Ulysses Grant. Grant’s farm was actually the farm owned by President Grant’s in-laws. He later took over the farm with the intention of retiring there after his presidency. It was originally a peach orchard but he turned it into a horse ranch as part of his preparation to retire there. Unfortunately, he never actually retired on the farm. His children had moved to New York and his wife wanted to be closer to the grandchildren. After a bad investment left him in debt to the Vanderbilts, he eventually gave them the farm along with all of his other properties in an effort to pay off the debt. Continue reading

My Favorite Fudge Recipe

One of the goals I have for this blog is to post a new recipe each week. The problem is that some weeks I do more cooking than others. I tend to cook two or three meals in the first two weeks of the month and eat leftovers for the rest of the month. Anyway, I have a bunch of pictures I took last year for this candy survey thing and I thought I would use them to post some of the recipes I made for Christmas last year.

St. Louis Visit Recap and the Budweiser Clydesdales

Hi! I’m back from St. Louis! Josh and I had a great time this weekend. We did a bunch of exciting things and a few less exciting things too.

First of all, the drive really sucks! It is 6.5-7 hours long and after about 4 hours I’m tired and ready to stop. I definitely needed at least one night’s sleep to recuperate from the drive and as a result most of our plans for Saturday were a wash. We ended up sleeping later than planned, so we decided to see a movie. While we were waiting for our movie time, we spent a few hours window shopping at a fancy mall where we couldn’t afford anything.

St. Louis, here I come!

I’m traveling to visit Josh in St. Louis this weekend. I decided to post the last few pictures I took on my last visit in honor of this trip. Sadly, I only have three pictures.

On my last trip to visit Josh we went to the Renaissance Faire, we shopped for a mattress and we went to the Laumeier Sculpture Park.

Pepper’s new box

Look what Josh found when he opened up his new sneakers! Just kidding. I think Pepper waited like 5 seconds before she claimed this box as a bed.

Pork Chile Verde

This is one of my favorite dishes! It is warm and sunny, a perfect meal for a cold winter’s day. It is also a great meal if you are feeling under the weather or depressed because eating it just feels like home and happiness. I like to eat it alone as a stew but it is also great on a bed of Spanish rice.
