Grant’s Farm

While I was in St. Louis Josh and I visited Grant’s Farm.

That is Grant as in President Ulysses Grant. Grant’s farm was actually the farm owned by President Grant’s in-laws. He later took over the farm with the intention of retiring there after his presidency. It was originally a peach orchard but he turned it into a horse ranch as part of his preparation to retire there. Unfortunately, he never actually retired on the farm. His children had moved to New York and his wife wanted to be closer to the grandchildren. After a bad investment left him in debt to the Vanderbilts, he eventually gave them the farm along with all of his other properties in an effort to pay off the debt. Continue reading

Snickerdoodles

Hi all,
First of all, let me introduce myself as Mary’s little sister.  I have been meaning to post some entries for awhile!  Here it goes.

My boyfriend Greg told me he was craving snickerdoodles which are one of my favorite cookies to bake.  I told him “no problem, I’ll make you a batch!”  … Little did I know he said snickerdoodles but actually meant peanut butter cookies.  When I brought the finished product over he asked how come they didn’t have lines in the top.  Anyways, these cookies came out tasty and here is the recipe!

My Favorite Fudge Recipe

One of the goals I have for this blog is to post a new recipe each week. The problem is that some weeks I do more cooking than others. I tend to cook two or three meals in the first two weeks of the month and eat leftovers for the rest of the month. Anyway, I have a bunch of pictures I took last year for this candy survey thing and I thought I would use them to post some of the recipes I made for Christmas last year.

St. Louis Visit Recap and the Budweiser Clydesdales

Hi! I’m back from St. Louis! Josh and I had a great time this weekend. We did a bunch of exciting things and a few less exciting things too.

First of all, the drive really sucks! It is 6.5-7 hours long and after about 4 hours I’m tired and ready to stop. This could have something to do with the fact that I don’t have cruise control or I could just be a wimp. I definitely needed at least one night’s sleep to recuperate from the drive and as a result most of our plans for Saturday were a wash. We ended up sleeping later than planned, so we decided to see a movie. While we were waiting for our movie time, we spent a few hours window shopping at a fancy mall where we couldn’t afford anything.

St. Louis, here I come!

I’m traveling to visit Josh in St. Louis this weekend. I decided to post the last few pictures I took on my last visit in honor of this trip. Sadly, I only have three pictures.

On my last trip to visit Josh we went to the Renaissance Faire, we shopped for a mattress and we went to the Laumeier Sculpture Park.
