I heard that there was going to be a hot air balloon race in Little Rock. I have been to the big balloon fiesta in New Mexico. I thought this would be a good opportunity to get some new pictures to add to the ones I got in New Mexico. Sadly, I was wrong…
I had originally planned on getting up really early to go to one of the races but ended up sleeping in instead. In addition to the morning races, they were also scheduled to have a mass ascension at 6 and an evening glow at 8. I decided to head over to War Memorial park for the mass ascension so I headed over around 5 to get there at 5:30. Surprisingly, when I got there there were no balloons out and ready to be filled! It turned out that there was too much wind. The mass ascension ended up being cancelled and even though Josh didn’t want me to stay past dark, I did hang around to get a few pictures of the balloons filling.
- Proof that I was there
- more balloons
- I had to take a picture with the Arkansas balloon!
- Monkey balloon!
- This was one of only two balloons to do tethered ascensions
- Dusk falls at the balloon race
- Ballon at the Great War Memorial Balloon Race
All in all, it was a pretty good time. I do wish I had brought along a book or something for the 2 hours I spent waiting around. The event was pretty popular as hundreds of people came out to enjoy the balloons.
